Adoption Process

Thank you for considering adoption from us! We are thrilled that you are interested in giving one of our animals a loving home. Our adoption process is designed to ensure that our animals find the best possible homes!

Ready to Adopt?!?!

Thank you for considering adoption!  Adopters make a statement against the overbreeding and overpopulation problem that plagues our country. At One By One Rescue, we believe in quality placements over quantity, thus our name.  When we bring a dog into our rescue, we are making a commitment to place them into a loving home for the remainder of their lives.  We are proud to be picky!

When bringing a dog into your home…

  • You must be committed to at least a 10-year commitment.

  • You must be committed to routine and preventative vet care, emergency vet care, feeding and expenses. Emergency vet care is most often very expensive so you will need to have the financial resources to care for your adopted pet.

  • You must be committed to work through a transitional adjustment period that may last a few months or longer.

  • If you adopt a puppy you must complete a puppy class in your area that is approved by One By One Rescue.

  • If behavioral issues arise, you must be committed to try to work through them with positive reinforcement by either taking a class or working with an in-home behavior consultant before giving up on your dog.

Still Ready to Adopt?!?!

The first step in the process is to review the profiles of our available dogs and select the dog you feel is the best fit for your home and lifestyle.  Then, click the Adopt button and complete the adoption application.  When doing so, PLEASE complete it with attention to detail.  In addition to reviewing every word on your application, we will speak with your personal and veterinary references to evaluate whether we think you will make a good match for the dog you have submitted the application for.  Please be patient with us as the process takes time overall, but especially since we are all volunteers.

Applicants who were not chosen for the specific dog will receive an email indicating the dog was adopted. At that time, you may let us know if there is another dog you are interested in.  If there isn’t another dog at that time, you may simply email or message us anytime for the calendar year when you see a dog you are interested in.
